DAY 1: TORTOLA TO NORMAN ISLAND
Caves, Snorkeling & Pirate Adventures
Your BVI family sailing adventure starts with an easy sail from Tortola to Norman Island.
Once anchored in The Bight, it’s time to get everyone into the water.
Family favorites
- Snorkel The Caves at Treasure Point.
- Swim in clear Caribbean water.
- Try paddleboarding or kayaking.
- Look for tropical fish and sea turtles.
- Turn the day into a pirate adventure.
Norman Island is a fantastic introduction to BVI snorkeling and sailing, with plenty of ways for families to enjoy the water without over complicating the day.
Explore more family-friendly snorkeling locations in our BVI Spots Guide.
Overnight: Norman Island
Barefoot Tip: Start snorkeling early. The water is usually calmer, visibility is better, and little explorers have more energy.
DAY 2: NORMAN ISLAND TO PETER ISLAND
One More Swim Before Moving On
Enjoy a relaxed morning on Norman Island before sailing to Peter Island.
Take one last swim, explore the shoreline or enjoy breakfast aboard before heading out. Once you reach Peter Island, settle into Great Harbor and make the afternoon about water time.
Family favorites
- Snorkeling in Great Harbor.
- Swimming from the yacht.
- Paddleboarding.
- Kayaking.
- Beach exploring.
- Spotting marine life.
Overnight: Peter Island
Barefoot Tip: Peter Island’s resort is private, so you’ll need a day pass or paid dockage to access it. The beach and some hiking are open to the public. Keep the afternoon flexible—kids rarely follow the itinerary, and paradise has a habit of changing the plan.
DAY 3: PETER ISLAND TO VIRGIN GORDA / NORTH SOUND
Big Rocks. Big Adventure.
Today you sail toward Virgin Gorda, one of the BVI’s most spectacular destinations.
Make time for The Baths, where enormous granite boulders create caves, pools and winding passages made for exploring.
Family favorites
- Explore The Baths.
- Swim in natural pools.
- Snorkel.
- Kayak.
- Paddleboard.
- Explore North Sound.
- Enjoy lunch ashore.
The Baths is one of those BVI experiences that work for both kids and grown-ups. Bring water shoes and let the family adventure begin.
Overnight: North Sound, Virgin Gorda
Barefoot Tip: Explore The Baths early. Cooler rocks, less heat, more adventure.
DAY 4: VIRGIN GORDA TO ANEGADA
Welcome to the Wild Side of the BVI
Today brings one of the biggest changes of scenery: Anegada.
Unlike the mountainous islands you’ve visited so far, Anegada is a low-lying coral island surrounded by reefs, beaches and wide-open spaces.
It’s also packed with family-friendly things to do in the BVI.
Family favorites
- Visit the salt ponds.
- Go flamingo spotting.
- Swim at one of Anegada’s beautiful beaches.
- Snorkel.
- Explore the island by vehicle or moke.
- Try horseback riding along the beach.
- Visit Conch Island.
Anegada is also home to Loblolly Bay, a fantastic snorkeling location featured in our BVI Spots Guide.
Overnight: Anegada
Barefoot Tip: Rent a moke or vehicle. Anegada is bigger than it looks, and the best family stops are spread out.
DAY 5: ANEGADA TO CANE GARDEN BAY
With an Optional Snorkel Stop Along the Way
Enjoy a relaxed morning on Anegada before beginning the journey toward Cane Garden Bay.
This is one of the longer stretches of the itinerary, so settle into the cockpit, feel the trade winds and make the journey part of the adventure.
Break up the day
- Leave Anegada after breakfast.
- Stop at a suitable BVI snorkeling spot, conditions permitting.
- Take a swim and stretch your legs.
- Enjoy lunch aboard.
- Continue toward Cane Garden Bay.
- Arrive in time for beach time and sunset
Once you arrive, get your feet in the sand and enjoy one of Tortola’s most famous beaches.
Overnight: Cane Garden Bay
Barefoot Tip: The longer sail is part of the adventure. Break it up with lunch and a snorkel stop at Marina Cay before continuing to Cane Garden Bay. Slow down, soak it in and let paradise set the pace.
DAY 6: CANE GARDEN BAY TO JOST VAN DYKE
Beach Bars, White Bay & Barefoot Bliss
Enjoy breakfast in Cane Garden Bay before heading to Jost Van Dyke.
With plenty of time to enjoy the island, make White Bay your family beach headquarters for the day.
Family favorites
- Swim at White Bay.
- Build sandcastles.
- Paddleboard.
- Snorkel.
- Explore the beach.
- Enjoy lunch by the water.
- Watch the sunset.
- Hike to the bubbly pool or Sandy Cay Hike.
Jost Van Dyke is famous for its legendary beach bars, but families can enjoy plenty of the island without making the day all about rum.
The grown-ups can enjoy a Painkiller. The kids can conduct some very important juice research.
Overnight: Jost Van Dyke
Barefoot Tip: Pack sand toys. White Bay is basically one giant family playground.
DAY 7: JOST VAN DYKE TO COOPER ISLAND
One Last Swim, Then Cooper Island
Enjoy your final morning on Jost Van Dyke. Have breakfast, take one last swim and soak up White Bay before setting sail for Cooper Island.
Jost Van Dyke to Cooper Island
- Enjoy a relaxed sail through the Sir Francis Drake Channel.
- Take in the BVI views as the islands slowly disappear behind you.
- Arrive at Cooper Island for a final swim, snorkel and beach time.
- Enjoy lunch, dinner or a relaxed evening ashore.
No need to squeeze in one last adventure. Cooper Island is the adventure.
Overnight: Cooper Island
Barefoot Tip: Enjoy your final evening on Cooper Island. Take one last swim, soak up the BVI and savor your last night in paradise.
Depart early the next morning and head back to the base for debriefing, packing and refueling.
The Hardest Part? Nobody will want to get off the boat.
One last sail. One last look at the BVI. Then back to reality.

BAREFOOT TIP: KEEP IT FLEXIBLE
A 7-day BVI family sailing itinerary is a guide—not a contract carved into granite.
Weather, sea conditions, children’s energy levels and the beach nobody wants to leave can all change the plan.
That’s the beauty of a BVI yacht charter. You can slow down, stay longer, change a stop or follow the weather.
The itinerary is your guide but paradise gets the final say.
